No Layoffs, Just Work At Collins & Aikman Plant

Updated: August 17, 2007
plant(RANTOUL)--- It should have been a rough day for workers at the Collins And Aikman plant in Rantoul, instead it was a busy one. The plant announced last month it would start laying off workers on Friday August 17th and would finish by the end of the month, but there were no lost jobs to report. WCIA-3 talked to a manager at plant number two, he said they weren't laying anybody off on Friday. In fact they had to call workers back in because they were so busy. As far as the other plants in the area, workers there say they haven't heard of any layoffs taking place either. There is hope on the way for the 500 employees whose jobs are in jeopardy. An Iowa plastics company is in talks to buy two of the three plants. A deal could be made in as little as a few weeks.
