power lines(CHAMPAIGN)---The plan was supposed to help people on their power bills, but will end up costing some new homeowners a whole lot more. The state was suing Ameren for dropping an incentive program for those who bought all-electric homes, but not anymore. That lawsuit was killed as part of the new relief plan, the governor is about to sign. People in one Champaign community say they feel duped for buying into that incentive program, and are now paying the price. "Not only do we pay high power bills now, but our resale value just went way down." Says homeowner Beth Brandriff "When we moved in, in August of last year our power bills were like $80 a month." Beth's husband Barton "Now there like $425 a month." Brandriff says she and her husband are trying other ways of decreasing their power bill, like using energy efficient bulbs and installing heat pumps.
