Leonard Cemetery is a small burial ground that means a lot to a great deal to many families. So much so that caretakers cant believe it was targeted. "Why, why do you want to destroy something like this," asked caretaker Clarence Drennan. Thats one question he wants answered after the cemetery hes looked after for years was destroyed just a few years ago. "Theres no funds to put this thing back together," he said. "Theres no funds whatsoever." At 71 years-old, Drennan says hes never seen anything like this before and vows not to let those responsible for the damage get the best of him. "I just got to bit the bullet and start-in and redo what was tore down," he added. But thats a task, he says, is easier said than done: all of his years of hard work, he says, are lost. "I just wish that they didnt have to take all their time to do this work." With the help of friends and neighbors, however, Drennan is beginning to pick up the pieces. "Ive had people calling me this morning wanting to come and help put things back together," he said. Putting back together a cemetery, he says, is hundreds of years old and filled with many personal memories. "There all relatives somewhere or the other. Thats the reason that I take care of it," he said.
