Chatham Police Investigate Two Abandoned Fetuses

Updated: July 19, 2007
police badgeA death investigation in a quiet Sangamon County neighborhood has revealed a startling discovery. Today (Thursday) Chatham Police announced a woman discovered the bones of two fetuses in a plastic rubbermaid container in her garage ..last Friday. So many questions and so few answers tonight (Thursday). The Sangamon County Coroner did not return my call ... But in this press release she says the fetuses were anywhere between seven to nine months old. She says it could have happened up to ten years ago. The skeletal bones were found in a garage on East Spruce Street in Chatham on Friday. The police chief who didn't want to go on camera says .. the woman was moving some boxes around in the garage and found the bones in a plastic container. He says she had lived there less than two years and the garage was open often so anyone could have placed the bones there. The coroner also says there weren't signs of trauma to the remains. Neighbors on this street were disturbed about the discovery. Since there were two fetuses some believe they were twins ... But again the coroner did not call WCFN News back and the police chief didn't know either. Police say it's a tough investigation since there's a ten year span the bones could have been in there. But the chief says they're trying to track down some names. Right now they thought they had a few but came to a dead end.
