Updated: July 19, 2007
Since service to Midway airport started in February there's been low numbers of passengers. Officials now want to explore flights to o-hare to get more people flying.
Decatur airport wants to hire an aviation consultant to look at the possibility of flying to o-hare. On average the airport sees about two passengers per flight.
Officials say they were excited about service to Chicago but haven't been happy with the numbers of fliers and hope more people jump on board so the flights can stay. Travelers say there's pros and cons to either airport.
"I prefer flying midway it's smaller it's easier to get around it's not as congested and it's just quicker."
"O'Hare has more connections it's a bigger airport obviously it's one of the major airports in our country so if you're flying over seas."
There are two round trip flights out of Decatur to midway airport everyday. With about 100 people taking advantage of those flights a month. Officials say they're in the early stages of planning but want to explore all options. Well still no word from great lakes aviation who signed on to provide service. The airport says it's hopeful but the company doesn't have the airplanes ready.
