Douglas County Chief Deputy Tommy Martin died late last night after nearly a month in intensive care. Martin was shot twice last month during a crime spree that stretched across Douglas County. Now, the men accused of shooting martin are facing murder charges. Prosecutors amended the charges against Yusef Kareem Brown and Willie Thompson Wednesday afternoon. Both now face three counts of first degree murder. They are also facing more than forty other charges in connection with the crime spree that ended with hostages being taken at an Arcola bank Flags across Tuscola flew at half staff Wednesday, as the town remembered Martin as a fallen officer and a good friend. Paul Wisovaty worked with Martin and was a close friend. He says Martin had no enemies. "Whenever somebody passes away everybody gushes forward about how everyone liked him or her and usually thats not true this time it was true," says Wisovaty. "The guys tommy arrested liked him, the guys he sent to jail liked him. Its impossible to explain unless you knew him but every single person liked Tommy Martin." Wisovaty also echoed what several people all over town said in his passing, that he will never be forgotten. "Ive found when someone dies, a couple of years later someone will say, hey remember Paul? That happens. Its not going to happen here. Nobodys going to say I forgot about Tommy."
