Cops are focusing here after a spike in crime over time. But many in this neighborhood say simply adding police isnt helping. "Theyre not stopping anything. People are still getting shot. Drugs are still being sold. Kids are still getting hurt." When it comes to beefing up security in the Garden Hills community, some people say its not worth it. Crime has become a part of their lives and this wont solve it. "I dont really feel that its a quick solution to just say more police." "If its gonna happen. Its gonna happen." The extra manpower is part of a neighborhood partnership called Community Assistance Team or CAT. Their goal is to make their presence known in this neighborhood and respond to calls faster. But some people are fed up. They say sending out more police is a waste of their time. I see them riding around like maybe 5, 10 times a day. Theres no action or anyhing. They just ride." But others say just seeing them roll through makes them feel safer." "Theres a lot of crime going on and you know different things in the neighborhood that we really needed the police to check on more often." "We have several elderly ladies and men in the neighborhood. Their husband or wife is deceaed and its a lot better. They know theyve got a little protection when the cops are driving through the area." Still some say more isnt always better. Police say its too early to tell. There was a standoff not far from here a few weeks ago. In that case they got to the scene quicker because of the extra patrols.
