At this point, police say it's too early to tell whether or not the robberies are connected. One of the First National Bank suspects is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet, 4 inches tall with a heavy build. His age is unknown. Police Deputy Director Doug Miller said the man wore a mask over his face and had a dark blue or black cap and white tennis shoes. The suspect in Tuesday's robbery at United Community Bank is allegedly a white male. The suspect involved in June 23rd's Danville Consolidated Credit Union robbery is described as a black male.
Police say financial institutions have always been targets, so workers are well trained. But police say customers can help. They say if you see a robbery, stay calm and try to remember some details about the bad guy. Police also say keeping your eyes and ears open can stop other crimes.
"I can't stress enough just the simple event of being aware of what's going on around you," said Public Safety Director Larry Thomason. This involves taking mental notes of what's around you before you enter and leave a bank. "Just that consciousness level itself and being observant may provide us with information that can solve a crime," he said.
So far, no arrests have been made. Police are actively investigating these robberies. If you have any information, call Danville police or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 446-tips.
