(CHAMPAIGN)---Guests at the Red Roof Inn in Champaign were on edge Friday evening after some people barricaded themselves inside their room and refused to come out. A man, woman, and an underage girl were inside that room.
Unsure whether or not the suspects were armed, officials had to be cautious.
"Well we treat it like any barricade situation." Says Champaign Police Chief R.T. Finney "It's unknown, you don't know the absolute threat. We collect the information from the agencies and the family members that come. We utilize that information to make contact and then negotiate them out."
Shortly after police arrived, the hotel was put on lock down, which made it hard for guests to come and go as they please.
"We came back wanted to go to our rooms." Says hotel guest Mary Thomas "My main concern here was my dog because we couldn't get into our room and you know I hate to leave her."
Armed with bullhorns, cops repeatedly asked the suspects in room 231 to come out with their hands up. Just over 3 hours after it started, they were able to take control of the situation without having to use any force.
"I mean it took some coaxing." Says Chief Finney "I mean they wouldn't come out originally but we had to make several contacts and they eventually came out. Apparently got tired of us calling them."
18-Year-old Jacob Morrissey is being held in a Champaign County Jail on a $50,000 bond for a Champaign County warrant and various other parole violations. Police are confident Morrissey is the man who barricaded himself in the hotel, but don't yet know if he had anything to do with the robberies at the McDonalds in Mahomet and Leroy.
They have also questioned a friend of his who lives in the Champaign-Urbana area about this case.
