Updated: June 22, 2007
police badgeThe gunman in the standoff in Arcola surrendered peacefully Thursday evening after seven and a half hours. The last hostage, the bank manager at First Mid Illinois Bank and Trust, was released safely. It all started with a armed robbery at a house in Camargo. During a high speed chase, a Douglas County Sheriff's Chief Deputy was shot in the face. He's in stable but critical condition. None of the hostages at the bank were hurt. We don't know the name of the suspect or his charges. Police say he's from the Chicago area.
