Homeless Man Identified

A homeless man found dead near a popular camp site has been identified. Today (Wedensday) the Sangamon County coroner says 47-year old Khanh Sithilith died near some railroad tracks. His body was found Friday night. Because his body deteriorated so much ... She can't figure out how he died. Khanh Sithilith came from Laos ... That's near Vietnam ... Here at Helping Hands Shelter... Workers say he knew how to get his point across in english but when it came to complex issues like where he was going to live ... There's was a language barrier. Friday a person looking for their cat stumbled along his body ... That's when investigators say he'd been there for some time because he was wearing his winter coat. At Helping Hands ... Workers say they have many clients that stay at the same campsite ... They're more seasonal clients who need help mainly during the winter months. And this isn't the first homeless person to die at the campsite ... In April another man around the same age died too. "We have a lot of people that choose to come to the shelter and seek services and then we have a lot of them that choose and stay in the shelter and those that don't we cant force them to stay somewhere where they don't want to." Said Apple Glover, Helping Hands Administrative Director. Helping Hands says Khanh did have a drinking problem ... But he was working on going to school ... He also came in about once a week to check his mail. Helping Hands has 33 beds for the homeless. The mayor's homelessness task force is working a resolution ... So far they've installed lockers for the homeless to store their stuff.
