Domestic Battery Suspect Involved In Stand Off

(URBANA)---A suspect is in custody after a stand off with Urbana police. It happened late Saturday afternoon inside campus connection apartments at the intersection of Goodwin and Bradley in Urbana. Police say a man barricaded himself inside an apartment with a gun and made threats to harm himself and others. That same man was involved in a domestic dispute earlier in the day. After calling in swat team units, police say they were able to convince the suspect to give himself up without hurting himself or anyone else. "In a situation like this...when we get someone whose upset, there's a lot of different emotional issues that are going on." Says Urbana Police Lieutenant Anthony Cobb. "So we try to calm the person down, try to speak with them and help them think a little more rationally." Police say they had around 40 officers at the scene on Saturday, the suspect's identity is not being released at this time.
