Car Found in Lake Decatur Could Solve Missing Woman Case
Updated: June 4, 2007
DECATUR- A Decatur woman is waiting to hear if bones found in the bottom of lake Decatur over the weekend belong to her missing daughter.
Police aren't sure of the identity of the bones but today they confirmed the car is the same make and model 21 year old Shannon Green was last seen in more than 8 years ago. Police want a positive DNA match before they'll confirm the remains belong to green. But there are some similarities that can't be looked over.
WCIA3 reported in 1999 Shannon Green had left her mother's house at about four in the morning on February first driving a 1989 Maroon Colored Eagle Premier. The same make and model of the car police pulled from the mucky waters of lake Decatur Saturday morning.
When green first went missing her family said she had been depressed for several days but had never disappeared. The bones found in the car are now being tested by forensic DNA scientists.
Police say they have contacted Green's mother and she is waiting to hear from the coroner.
Once these remains are identified. Police say they'll continue investigating.
