A Gifford woman faces another charge in a car wreck that killed a nine year old boy. Investigators say Melissa Darr was on drugs when she rolled her car four times more than a week ago.
Blood and urine tests came back from the state crime lab and investigators found traces of cocaine and other drugs. Melissa Darr is free on bond tonight. She pleaded not guilty to the new charge of aggravated DUI on top of the earlier charge of reckless homocide. Neighbors tell me WCIA they've had several close calls with Darr on the road. They say she speeds and changes lanes in no passing zone. The States Attorney says based on the toxicology tests, if convicted, Darr faces prison time.
"We received a report from the illinois state police crime lab analysis blood and analysis and based on those results we filed additional charge of aggravate driving under the influence," States Attorney Julia Rietz adds.
Investigators say Darr was arguing with her husband before the crash. They say she drove on to the ramp too fast flipping her car. That caused two other cars to crash and utlimately the nine year old boy was thrown from a car and killed. The State Police is still looking into what happened. They are reconstructing the wreck..
