PBL Schools On Lock Down
Updated: May 15, 2007
Paxton-Buckley-Loda High and Junior High Schools dismissed kids one at a time-- after the schools were put on lockdown. School officials are calling it a "direct threat"-- and they're not giving much detail as to why they've had to close the campus. Letters are being sent home to parents. Both schools were locked down because of how close they are together. The school says student searches will continue for days to come. They'll go through metal detectors, and police will be in the halls. Ford County Crimestoppers is offering a $1,000 for any information about the threat.WCIA 3 has obtained a copy of the letter sent home to parents... Dear Parent, Today the high school received a potential threat against the student population. I made the decision to lock down both the PBL Junior High School and High School because of the close proximity of the buildings and for student and staff safety. Law enforcement was contacted and began an on-going investigation. Both students and staff were searched prior to dismissal, and the premises will be searched prior to students returning to school tomorrow. I have been assured by law enforcement that there will be a strong police presence before school, during, and after school on the Junior High and High School campus. In addition, all district buildings will be on lock-down until the issue is resolved for precautionary reasons. The district administration, staff, and law enforcement will vigorously pursue and seek information regarding this situation. The Ford County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1000 for information regarding this situation. I appreciate your understanding during this difficult situation. Sincerely, Cliff McClure, Superintendent of Schools
