Car Caper

CHAMPAIGN - Someone targeted a car parked at home.  But this was not your ordinary theft.  Chris Young from the Champaign Police Department says, "These people had the time, motive, tools and expertise to go ahead and do this job."   In Crime Watch this week, police need your help to find whoever pulled off this job.   Not only did they steal electronics, they also jacked up the car and went after the rims and wheels.  It happened late at night on May 5th in the 3400-block of Stoneway Court in Northwest Champaign.  Young says no one was home at the time.  The suspects took a DVD system, hundreds of DVDs and CDs, an amplifier and speakers.  But that's not all.   Young says, "They then started to remove limited edition chrome rims and wheels from the vehicle.   They were able to remove one of the wheels and were in the process of removing the others when they were interrupted."  Police don't know what scared the suspects off.   The one rim was worth $900.   If you have any information about this crime, Call Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-TIPS.   You don't have to give your name or testify in court and a reward is offered.
