SPRINGFIELD - It was also an emotional day for one central Illinois family as their loved one was finally honored for his service during Vietnam. Specialist Fourth Class Wesley Stiverson was seriously injured in Vietnam and spent the rest of his life in the hospital. Sunday friends and family watched as the late Stiverson got the honor he deserved. His name was added to those listed on the state Vietnam veteran's memorial at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield.
Stiverson's brother Jack says he feels honored to see the name on the wall. He says the ceremony gives the fallen men and women the fanfare they didn't get when they arrived home three decades ago.
Stiverson will also be honored in on nation's capitol on Memorial Day. His family plans to fly out to see his name added to the national memorial.
Sunday's ceremony in Springfield also honored the nearly 3,000 people in Illinois who served and died in Vietnam.
