gavelIt's back to business for workers at the Vermilion County Courthouse. It's the first day this week the courthouse has been open since the power was knocked out Sunday. Workers there say now, it's all about playing catch up and most of the backtracking is happening in the Circuit Clerk's Office. Even though there's no shortage of work to do employees there show true grace under fire. Workers restored power back to the building Wednesday afternoon and shed light on three days worth of work. Vermilion County Circuit Clerk, Sue Miller says coming in Wednesday and working in the dark for a few hours really paid off. She adds, “We worked until about 5:30 last night and a few of us came in early this morning and so we pretty much had court ready for today.” Some workers will even spend their weekend trying to work down the stacks of paperwork. Criminal Division Chief Deputy, Ann Dicken says have no fear, they’ll bounce back. “We're going to come in Saturday and do some working over to try to get the volume down because Monday we'll get another load [of tickets] from Saturday and Sunday so, it'll take several days but we'll get it done. The Circuit Clerk asks for everyone’s patience as the office continues to catch up. She says those who missed court this week, will get letters in the mail with a new court date. Miller says there’s no need to call the office unless you have a change of address.
