Updated: April 16, 2007
DECATUR- A car running out of gas may have saved a Decatur woman's life after police say she was kidnapped and raped by her ex-boyfriend and one of his friends.Officers say it's a disturbing case and if someone driving by hadn't called them when they saw Lewis's car broke down. They don't know if the woman would have made it out alive.
Detectives say she was grabbed on East Locust street in Decatur and thrown in to Lewis's car. Just hours later someone called the Sheriff's office to report two cars on the side of the road. They say Lewis's car had ran out of gas and he had called his friend to come get him. Officers say his friend then took part in the sexual assault. It was there in the backseat of the car officers found the woman.
Detective say, "The deputy arrived and saw this lady who appeared to be battered and clothed from the waist up and she asked him not leave her there and further investigation showed that she had been battered and assaulted."
The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released. Both men face sexual assault and attempted murder charges as well as kidnapping and possession of cocaine. They are due back in court by next week.
