WASHINGTON, D.C. - The City of Chicago moves one step closer to hosting the 2016 Summer Olympic Games and that could mean good news for Central Illinois. Chicago beat out Los Angeles Saturday as the U.S. Olympic Committee's top choice. The city will now go on to a list of worldwide candidates. The final decision is still two years away.
If Chicago is ultimately chosen there's a possibility Champaign could host some events. Chicago leaders say this is the moment they've been waiting for. Other cities expected to compete for the games include Madrid, Rome Rio De Janeiro and Tokyo.
