The family of a former police officer in Vermilion County say they were blindsided by accusations their father committed sex crimes while in uniform. Today David Lewis a former Belgium police officer appeared in court today to face a long list of criminal charges. Four of his children came to court today to show support. His daughter says she and her brothers and sister are pulling together to rally behind their dad. His oldest daughter Brandy says, “He was worried about his kids and not even himself and we keep telling him don't worry about us, we're ok and we know he didn't do this.” Lewis is facing 48 criminal charges for several crimes including criminal sexual assault and illegal sexual acts by use of force and while armed with a firearm while on duty. His daughter he says no matter the charges, they’re sticking by their dad. “ We're all behind him and we've all got his back and he knows he's got all of us and that's all that matters we know what's going on and it's going to be ok.” Lewis is due back in court later this month to enter a formal plea.
