breaking news
You could say Ray Cummings knows a thing or two about how to talk really fast.
For 38 years, hes been the auctioneer at unity high school, and every year, hes asked to come back.
"theyll say you gonna be the auctioneer, and ill say yeah and theyll say yes!," Ray says.
But while Rays the one with the microphone, he says the students are the ones with the voice.
"They know where its going," he says. "They see where its going; they understand where its going."
It, is the money these kids help raise for charity, even if they do have to pay 20 dollars for a cheeseburger or maybe 40 dollars for a box of cookies, they say, its well worth it.
"Were such a small school," says high school junior Janelle Koeberlein. "But," she says, "its cool that we can raise so much money."
High school senior Sarah Schaefer says, "Its just a great way to get people together and show the high school students that we care about the community and everyone else."
So because Ray cares too, hes back in front of the crowd again this year.
But I though, how hard could this job really be?
So, I decided to find out.
Okay, maybe I was wrong, it is kind of tough.
But theres one thing in this gymnasium these students are sure to count on.
Ray says, "Like i said before, Im coming back."
