Day 2 Rescue Efforts End
Updated: March 16, 2007

CLINTON - The last time anyone heard from 8 year old Kalin, 59 year old Richard, and 29 year old Jason Hunter was Wednesday night after eight. They called 911 saying they ran out of gas on their boat on Clinton Lake. Family members say the three were testing their new boat that day. The next day, officers found their boat at the bottom of a spillway, near the hydraulic system. They say weather played a big role in this accident.
Rescue crews focused today's search on the Southside of the spillway. Search teams started early friday morning searching this part of dam where the boat was found. Three boats and around 10 conservation officers used drag nets and poles to catch any solid material that may be underwater. Workers hope they will be able to bring some closure to the families.
Chris McCloud with the Department of Natural Resources says it something he wishes no families have to go through. "I don't know how any of us would deal with something like this it's an absolute tragedy, certainly the family goes through their own process. I don't know if you can bring closure that's completely up to the individual. We just have a job to do and we're trying to do it and working very hard."
The Dewitt County Coroner says autopsies on the two bodies showed they drowned. He was onsite at the spillway for part of today's rescue. Teams will be back out again, tomorrow morning.
