UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- Police are staying connected to the community through Twitter. The UIPD is taking part in the Global Police Tweet-a-Thon.

For one day, police around the world tweet about what's happening in their departments. The UIPD is the only department in the state taking part.

More than 100 departments worldwide are tweeting. UIPD says it's using the day to promote the department and get information to the community about preventative crime measures.
