CHAMPAIGN -- A battle over bus service that's lasted six years is coming to an end. Southwest MTD is dissolving.

It was formed in Southwest Champaign to stop Champaign-Urbana city buses from driving on its roads and to keep taxes lower. However, Southwest MTD never started service. Now it's working with lawyers to call it quits and everyone wants to move forward.

"They've obviously collected taxes and spent money. The riding public has been served by the whole escapade," says Bill Volk, with CUMTD.

CUMTD has already started bus service to the Champaign County YMCA and surrounding area. That will continue. Once all the changes are made, homeowners in the area should see a slight drop in taxes.
