Gray Sentenced

Updated: March 15, 2007
GrayA Vermilion County man charged in the murder of his wife learned his fate today. Kenneth Gray shot and killed his wife Kimberly Gray back in 2005. Last year he was charged with first-degree murder. Today, Judge Michael Clary sentenced Gray to 56 years in prison without the chance for parole. Kimberly’s family came to court this afternoon, dressed in purple shirts with her picture on the front. The family chose purple shirts, to symbolize domestic abuse. Several family members on both sides took the stand in an attempt to sway the judge. Among them, Kimberly’s 13-year-old son Brandon. He talked to the judge about how hard it’s been since his mother died. During his statement he began to cry and looked over at his father and said, “What kind of person could take a mother away from their kids.“ Things became heated and Judge Clary called for a brief recess after Kimberly and Kenneth’s family exchanged words during court. A brief argument ensued, and one woman was escorted out. After more than two hours of statements from family and attorney‘s, the judge reached his decision. Kimberly’s family says they are happy with the outcome and hope to put the whole ordeal behind them. Her mother says her main concern now is making sure Kimberly’s children are taken care of and can go on with their lives.
