Water may become more expensive commodity

DECATUR -- Water could get more expensive if city leaders agree to raise rates. The extra money will help the water department for various upgrades. It would also help pay to dredge the lake in future droughts.
Bunny Thomas runs Coney McKanes downtown. She says she's okay with the hike since it's for the "greater good."
The hike would affect both homeowners and businesses. They'd have to pay 35% more the first year; 30% more the next and 25% more in the third.
The average customer currently pays about $26/month. By year three, it would be up to $56/month.
