Coach bus drives into median on I-57

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Four people were hurt in a coach bus accident on I-57. It happened north of Rantoul around 2:00 pm Saturday.

State police say the bus was on its way to Chicago from Mississippi when the driver fell asleep. Authorities say he woke up as the bus went into the median.

53 passengers were on board. Four went to the hospital but were released.

The rest of the passengers transferred to MTD buses and were taken to the Illinois Terminal in Champaign. The driver faces charges including improper lane usage and driving while fatigued.
