UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- UI workers are threatening to strike. They were on campus Thursday, making their voices heard.

They picked then because UI Board of Trustees were meeting at the Illini Union. That's exactly where campus workers wanted to be. They wanted to make sure their message comes across loud and clear.

"We're going to be fighting for a fair contract."

That's what campus workers' union SEIU promised the board. The group represents more than 800 food and building service workers.

They say their members have been working without a contract for months and striking is their last resort. The union says its members do everything from prepare food to maintenance.

All that would stop if they went on strike. Members will meet this weekend, but they say a strike could happen as early as Monday.
