CHAMPAIGN -- Hundreds of students spent their "Unofficial" St. Patrick's Day in jail. According to a review conducted by the Champaign Police Department, nearly 250 people were arrested over the weekend. About 100 of them were UI students.

Police say they saw about 30% fewer ordinance violations this year, but more criminal arrests. Eight businesses were also cited for license violations.

They were mostly campus bars; Kam's, Joe's Brewery, White Horse Inn, Red Lion, The Clybourne, but a few other locations as well like Radio Maria, Esquire Lounge and Emerald City Lounge were penalized.
