SPRINGFIELD -- Lawmakers have been quick to react to the governor's proposed budget, and just as fast when it comes to laying blame. A lot of mixed reviews. Some say it's his best speech ever, others think it was just a campaign speech skirting the real issues.

One thing which seemed to catch everyone's attention, cuts to education. None of the lawmakers WCIA-3 News spoke with want to see that happen. They also don't like the fact the governor's budget spends a lot more money than the house says it's comfortable with.

If revenue projections are off, then we're already starting the year off in the red. So, the general consensus is this budget won't fly.

Lawmakers say they're glad to see the governor is recognizing pensions have to get done, but they say they were hoping for more leadership from him on the issue. Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka said paying down the state's backlog sounds like a good plan, but she'll believe it when she sees it.
