PARK RIDGE, Ill. (UI Release) - University of Illinois junior Thomas Pieters was named Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday. Pieters helped lead the Illini to their second championship at the Louisiana Classics in the last three years with a final-round 68 on Tuesday.
Pieters tied for fifth at the Louisiana Classics with a 1-under-par 215, jumping 15 spots on the final day with his four-under-par round. That was his seventh round under par in five tournaments in 2012-13, and it marks the second weekly award of his career and first this season. He joins teammates Thomas Detry (Feb. 13), Brian Campbell (Feb. 20) and Mason Jacobs (Feb. 20) as Big Ten weekly honorees this spring.
