MATTOON -- A woman is dead following a four-car crash. It happened around 8:30 Saturday night at the Route 16 and Lerna Road intersection.

Police say Michael Fogarty, 25, of Chicago rear-ended the car in front of him, pushing it into two other cars. Nine people were taken to the hospital to be treated. Amy Thomas, 40, of Springfield died from her injuries.

Fogarty was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions and failure to reduce speed, DUI and no seat belt. Illinois State Police and the Coles County States Attorney are investigating.
