Multi-state scammer targets churches

CHAMPAIGN -- Police are investigating a scam targeting churches. Police say a man stopped by a church asking for money.

He told the congregation he needed it to travel to Syria to help with funeral arrangements for his parents. The congregation collected hundreds of dollars for the man, who gave them a fake name.

When church members searched the internet, they found a picture of him linked to several similar church scams in multiple states. The photo identified him as Alan Farah.
