Myrlie Evers keynote speaker for Black History event

URBANA -- It's been 150 years since Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. People gathered at the UI's Krannert Center to celebrate and honor Black History Month.

The wife of civil rights activist, Medgar Evers, gave the keynote speech. Evers worked to stop segregation in Mississippi and was killed by the Ku Klux Klan in 1963.

Wednesday night, Myrlie Evers spoke about her husband's death. Myrlie Evers received the Presidential Award and spoke at President Obama's Inauguration.
