CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Tasers have been a tricky topic with some law enforcement departments in the county the past few years. There's lots of controversy about whether officers should have them.

Some people say they don't trust police to use tasers carefully, but officers say they think all police should have them. Two departments in Champaign-Urbana have them; University of Illinois police and Champaign County Sheriff's. Deputies also have them in the county jail.

When it's used, the victim can't move and feels an intense pain for five seconds. Officers say it's better than some other alternatives.

A WCIA-3 News investigation tracked how dangerous using a taser can be, plus what leaders in the Champaign and Urbana police departments think about having their officers use them. The full report airs Wednesday on the WCIA-3 News at 10.
