CHAMPAIGN -- Governor Quinn is pushing to increase the state's minimum wage, but business owners want to be heard first. The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce is putting together a survey and reaching out to businesses to get their thoughts on the increase.

It's not just open to businesses in Champaign County. They've teamed up with more than 15-other chambers around Central Illinois.

The governor announced in his State of the State earlier this month, he wants to increase it from $8.25 to $10.55 per hour. The survey has three questions. They ask business owners exactly what the change would mean for them.

Chamber leaders say the survey will provide a closer look at exactly what businesses are dealing with. Governor Quinn says it's going to help get people out of poverty, but critics say it could put people out of work as businesses struggle to make ends meet.
