Concealed-carry debate underway

SPRINGFIELD -- The concealed-carry debate is heating up at the Capitol, and it's causing tempers to flare. Lawmakers spent Tuesday night voting on more than a dozen amendments filed under House Speaker Mike Madigan's concealed-carry bill.

Each had to be reviewed separately which was frustrating for some members. They felt the bill should've been voted on in full.

Madigan chose to do it that way so everyone had a say in what they think should and shouldn't be allowed when it comes to concealed-carry. Experts say it's not often a bill is broken down piece by piece, like it was in this scenario.

Republicans also went after Democrats during the debate, saying the state has more important issues to deal with right now, like the pension crisis and rising stack of unpaid bills. They threw their support behind another concealed-carry proposal introduced last month, one they say lays out the best groundwork for a law.
