URBANA -- The middle school is making sure its students stay up-to-date with technology. WCIA-3's Jessica Shaw keeps us Connected to the Classroom.

Students and teachers will get newer and faster computers. It's a much-needed upgrade.

"I'm going to switch to the flute."

These new computers are helping this class rock on.

"Right now, we're using midi-control keyboards to create stuff."

"They take away a lot of skills about being editors and producers, so they will learn how to mix and remix music."

Soon, everyone at Urbana Middle School will have access to this type of technology. It will be paid for by that working cash bond the school board approved last week.

"We're adding laptop carts for student use and two i Pad carts."

Students like Sydney Davis say, in other classrooms, the computers are outdated and internet connection can be slow.

"A lot of assignments we have to go online to do research."

The teachers run into trouble too.

"Right now, they have pretty outdated machines. They're anywhere from 8 - 11 years old."

The new gear will make sure this generation stays current.

"As long as we stay up-to-date and we can keep stuff like this, we can do so much more with new technology and it can help people learn."

Urbana Middle School is the last building in the district without wireless. It's another addition the school will get.
