URBANA -- Tuesday is primary election day around the state. Just two races on the ballot in Champaign County. The county clerk says he'd hoped for 4,000-5,000 voters, but now he's not sure there will be half that many.

The race is a Democratic primary for mayor and city clerk positions, just for Urbana residents. It's a pretty small segment of voters. County Clerk Gordy Hulten says this is kind of an unusual election.

Poll workers were out bright and early, even though many voters were not. Earlier in the day, just over 1,000 people had cast ballots.

One reason behind the low turnout may have been the weather. Polls are open until 7 pm.
