SPRINGFIELD -- Daniel Day-Lewis began his research for the role of Abraham Lincoln at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Lewis visited the museum in November of 2010.

While he was there, staff let the actor touch real Lincoln artifacts to try to get inside Lincoln's mind. Lewis took home the award for Best Actor at Sunday's Oscar ceremony.

"Lincoln" was also nominated for best sound mixing, which is another tie to the museum. Sound designers for the film recorded artifacts at the museum to create background noise for the film.
