Some inmates could soon see the streets

SPRINGFIELD -- The state is getting ready to kick-start a program to let some inmates out of prison early. Illinois' Department of Corrections has now finalized the rules.
Some non-violent offenders with good behavior behind bars can get up to six months shaved off. It all depends on the crime, time served and other factors.
Supporters say the program will help keep our prisons from getting too crowded. The state used to have a similar early release program, but it was stopped three years ago because of corruption.
