SIDNEY -- As fire rips through a family's home, crews struggle to battle the blaze because of the snow. It happened Thursday night, in the 100-block of Main Street, just blocks from the Volunteer Fire Department.

Everyone made it out safely including the family's pets. The house sustained about $100,000 in damage. Crews say things could have been worse if they hadn't gotten help.

Captain Trent Bennett says the fire started in the attic, but not much else is known. It took awhile for trucks from ten different departments to arrive on scene because of the snow. Together, about 50 firefighters spent four hours putting it out. Then, they had to keep on top of hot spots.

Captain Bennett says the town has a lower water supply which is another reason it was so important for other agencies to help. It's the third big house fire here in the past two years. The homeowner and her children are staying with family and reportedly have insurance.
