Clock starts for businesses to clear walks

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA -- The sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement has been issued for both cities. Walkways must be cleared after declaration by the Public Works Director.

In Champaign, compliance is required within 48-hours. The declaration began at 10:15 am, Friday, so walks must be cleared by 10:15 am, Sunday.

In Urbana, the time limit is 24 hours. Since its notice is being issued at 1:00 pm, Friday, business owners have until 1:00 pm, Saturday, to clear walks.

Any business not in compliance will have snow and ice removed by city workers at the owner's expense.
