Proposed teen tan ban heats up

SPRINGFIELD -- A House committee voted Tuesday night to pass a bill banning anyone under 18 from tanning. It wouldn't matter if a parent gave consent. That would be illegal too. Spray tans would still be allowed.

Supporters say it's just too dangerous and puts teens as risk of skin cancer. Critics argue the government shouldn't be deciding what parents can and can't let their children do. Some tanning salons also worry about what the ban would mean for business.

The bill is far from becoming law. It now heads to the full House for a vote.
