CHAMPAIGN -- City leaders are gearing up for the UI's "Unofficial" St. Patrick's Day, and the rules are getting stricter. "Unofficial" weekend starts Friday, March 1.

The mayor is limiting keg and alcohol sales at liquor stores. Last year, those rules applied to businesses on campus. This year, he's expanding that zone to include Fat City Bar and Hollywood Liquors on the outskirts.

Mayor Gerard says other rules are pretty much the same as last year. You have to be 21 to get into bars during certain hours and businesses also aren't allowed to serve pitchers or drink specials. The city also won't issue any keg permits, so just one keg per household for the weekend.

Mayor Gerard hopes to minimize house and apartment parties. He says that's where things sometimes get out of hand, people get hurt and property gets damaged. The city's "official" "Unofficial" rules will be released Wednesday morning.
