CHAMPAIGN -- It hasn't been as winter-like as some people have hoped for this year. So they're looking new places for ice and freezing temps.

Hundreds of people got all bundled up and came to the University of Illinois skating rink Sunday afternoon. Some skaters came to try out new tricks and others were just getting the hang of gliding along on their blades. Either way, they said they were happy to breathe a little cold air and enjoy what winter means to them.

"There's not much to do outside when there's no snow in winter, so I always like to get here to the rink," said Brandon Giannoni, of Champaign.

There were a few birthday parties, plus many people attended with their friends and families. Some people said it's become a weekend tradition and they plan to continue until it's cold enough to stay outside.
