CHAMPAIGN -- School leaders took to the internet for input Friday. They reached out to parents through a Twitter chat. It's a first for Unit 4. They wanted to give it a try as just another way for families to make their voices heard.

The district wants parents' input when it comes to upgrades and projects for the district. They spent hours talking about the schools' aging buildings. Leaders have been looking into building a new high school and also addressed things like transportation and safety.

Superintendent Judy Wiegand took part in the Twitter chat. She says it's different, but it gives those parents who can't make it to school meetings a say as well. Dozens signed on for the session. The district says it plans to have another one in the future.
