DANVILLE -- A superintendent refuses to turn his back on the district. This is Mark Denman's 4th year. He was set to retire next year.

The board asked him to stay because of changes in the district. Denman says retirement can wait, because to him, students are what's most important.

"Many times, as I got out in the community and might go and get lunch in a fast food place at noon, I'll see a student I had 30-years ago. They'll say, 'you know you were right to keep me after school. I hope you know that lesson meant a lot to me,'" Denman says.

Denman who grew up in the district and was a teacher now plans to retire in the summer of 2015.
