CHAMPAIGN -- Some changes are in the works for this April's Illinois Marathon. Construction on the UI campus is forcing organizers to reroute the 5K.

The horseshoe area will be blocked off while the scoreboard is replaced. Typically, the 5K would finish there, but now racers can't.

Organizers say they just found out about the problem two weeks ago. Now, they're trying to come up with a solution. The issue doesn't affect any other race routes.

One plan involves running the 5K in reverse. Runners could come into the stadium from the north side and avoid the part which will be blocked off. Organizers plan to have the route finalized by this weekend.

One thing affecting all runners is the loss of the scoreboard showing those crossing the finish line. Next year, the scoreboard will be bigger and better, so racers can look forward to that.
